Back

Thu Apr 24th 13:49:09 2008 *

Many thanks to Ty for helping me get back on here after a long absence, good to see things still alive and hello to all of you still posting/reading.

Intending to do a proper update blog when I get a bit more spare time, but in the mean time I have a question that has perplexed me a little.

I want to be able to search google for a string containing the copyright symbol, with it actually using the symbol in the search.

I can do the following, but it seems to ignore the symbol..

http://www.google.com/search?num=100&hl=en&safe=off&q=%22%C2%A9+anything%22&btnG=Search

Any help with this would be superb, cheers!

Belated..

Mon Nov 6th 20:31:13 2006 *

I said I would do an update this weekend, alas I forgot! Just trying to sort out my CV (resume to you Yanks) as I need to make some applications for summer industrial placements very soon and my CV is looking both bare and outdated. Suffice to say it's not something I enjoy doing. I feel like I could spend all day on it making modifications and never be happy, but I reckon 15 minutes more on it and I'll be content with that for now.

My knee feels on fire right now - the physio gave me some exercises to do to build on the muscle on the inner thigh and combined with circuit training and I'm not sure that it is doing it much good at all. Going back to see her on Friday though, but that is a whole nother story..

I will get a real update done soon. Let's hear from the crazy brits on here - rel, crisp, monks and sean the scot too!

Cheers

England Regain the Ashes!

Tue Sep 13th 05:40:27 2005 *

[Source: bbc.co.uk]

This summer the cricket has been awesome. Highlight of summer sport viewing is always the cricket, especially when it's the Ashes, but this year has been incredible. After the first test, it looked a little dodgy but England always had the talent to come through and they did it in great style.

I managed to get tickets for the fifth day at Old Trafford, and despite coming so close to winning it was one of the best days of my life. It's amazing to experience just how much English cricket has come on in recent years, after playing so dismally throughout most of the 90s. Just hope that this series victory and all the added attention/renewed interest will get the young kids playing that will be the future stars of the game, but also for the enjoyment of the game and to keep fit and healthy.

Lots has been said about how cricketers are far better role models than the far more famous footballers (who increasingly seem to be more and more motivated by money), and the people saying it are spot on. Seeing the celebration parade today in London on TV highlights exactly what it's all about with the players taking their wives and families on with them, and Steve Harmison sitting their being interviewed with his two young kids on his knees talking about what it means to him epitomises what sport should be. Cricketers seem far more grounded and it shows.

On a slightly different note, it was hilarious to see Freddie Flintoff absolutely hammered trying to deal with an interview. But after his perfomances throughout the series all the celebrations are well deserved.

Legends, all of them.

Holiday

Thu Aug 25th 12:15:46 2005 *

Been a while. Holiday is going well, enjoying the break from Uni and sleeping lots, reading lots and running lots. Had a bit of a rest from tech stuff (that's what a CS course does to you) but now I'm really back into it again and got a few interesting (to me anwyay) projects on the go albeit ticking over slowly.

Going up to the Lake District for a long weekend this weekend which should be cool, and then when I get back I'll still have a month left before I go back to London. Sort of missing uni more than I thought I would, and it'll be cool to get back there again despite all the hard work ;)

This place has seemed a little slower than usual, but I'm enjoying reading all your posts. Hope you're all well.

Oh yeah, I jumped on the bandwagon and got google ads. I'm a poor student after all.

Exams..

Mon May 2nd 08:46:29 2005 *

Things have been very quiet for me online as I'm in the middle of exams. Not really had much time to do a lot else now, but it'll be all over soon and then I look forward to a long summer :)

Hope everyone is well, and good to see some changes here. Good job..

Edit: Wow, it's been a long time since I last posted!

Festive Greetings :-)

Wed Dec 29th 12:48:37 2004 *

Firstly, hope everyone had a most enjoyable and peaceful Christmas. I can't believe just how quickly this year has flown by.

Things are going well for me. First term at University in London has been amazing and I've really enjoyed my time there despite the heavy workload. It's easy to complain about all the work they give us, but just like someone said (Crisp I think - Have a good time in Aus btw) it's a great feeling to be learning again and although I don't get any choice about which modules I take, the majotity of the material is interesting stuff.

Life in London is great. The people are cool, the weather nice(ish) and there is never a boring moment, with trips to Fabric Live! being the highlight. Rel, if you want to experience some real music (none of this wannabe rockstar stuff '-)) I'll take you along sometime in the new year :p

Unfortunately, I've only got two weeks holiday this Christmas so I'm actually heading back to London on the 3rd for another 11 weeks. Because I haven't had long back here, things have been pretty busy with lots to do including too much eating and running. After a two hour + run yesterday on local hills with a bunch of older and fitter guys I felt more physically and mentally exhausted than ever before. It's a great feeling though. All in all it's good to be back and seeing friends and family and eating well again and doing familiar things back home.

Wow, the Milkdrop plugin for Winamp in Desktop Mode is amazing! On that note, have a good new years celebration everyone :)
See you all next year '-)

London...

Fri Oct 22nd 21:17:49 2004 *

What can I say about University so far? It's been amazing. It really has, and I've had a load of fun and done a load of work and it's only the end of the third week. I've just come back from FabricLive, which was a wicked night; there's just so much to do around here especially in the part of London I am staying in. Unfortunately, there hasn't been an abundance of free time as they have got us working rather hard already, but it's good stuff so I can't complain.

My room is cool, really high up with a pretty good view, but the whole building in general is a bit run down but the atmopshere is brilliant.

It's a completely new experience for me doing a lot of things that I had taken for granted like cooking everyday, and washing my stuff and ironing. It's helping me become a more rounded person though (not physically though :p). I got a bit ill in the first week or so, with a standard dose of 'freshers flu' which has not fortunately gone, and I'm back to full health and trying to work on my fitness with a few cross country/athletics runs planned.

The people here are all very nice and friendly and I've made some great friends already. Great diversity of people here too; it seems that over 50% are international students with a lot of Chinese students especially. Additionally, everyone is very bright, but some more so than others. I met a guy tonight that somehow managed to do a whole 7 A-levels in one year and get AAAABBC and all the A-levels were respectable subjects including Maths, Further Maths and Computing. I thought I had it hard in my last year; this guy must have studied 24/7 for a whole year. Immense.

Financially, things are looking somewhat bleak as the first term is always quite expensive with signing up for stuff and buying things that are needed. I really need to sort out my overdraft, to help me get through the final weeks I think. It's not actually as bad as I had expected price wise in London, but still not easy for a student to live on.

My little brother has a weeks holiday off school so the family are coming down to see me this Sunday which will be cool. Then the following weekend, I am off to the Lake District to get away from London for a bit, which is going to be marvellous providing it doesn't rain too much.

It's now actually 5am and I've got plenty to do tomorrow (today) and although I thought I had more to say, my mind always go blank when I start to actually write an entry, so I think it's bed time for me. Hope everyone is well :)

It's now Wednesday evening so there are only two days left before I leave to go to University. That should mean that I really should have everything packed up pretty much and ready to go. However, I am far from it. Got lots to do so the next couple of days are going to be hectic getting everything together and buying stuff that I haven't got.

It's been pretty wierd all this week, with there not being many of my friends around, I haven't done much of note except the cinema tonight to see Wimbledon which was amazing, especially because I am a tennis player and fan.

As I mentioned before it seems that my Laptop and PDA will be arriving in the next couple of days, most probably tomorrow which is amazing, but won't help me get anything productive done :D

I really need to get to bed, so I can get up early and not miss the postman. That would not be cool.

Wed Sep 22nd 19:06:02 2004 *

Just come back from another night our with my mates (5 out of the last 6 nights I think). The large majority of my friends with a few excpetions are off to University shortly, or have already left so we are having some nights out and stuff to celebrate them all leaving ;) Hopefully planning to go up and visit a select few of them at free weekends over the next year, and have some of them to stay with me for a while if possible.

As far as I know I am going to be the last one to leave by about a week, so there'll be pretty much no one around net week which is the week leading up to when I go, so at least I'll be able to have lots of time to sort all my stuff out and all that. Still do't really know what to pack, except the basics.

Seems quite likely now that my Laptop and PDA aren't going to arrive before I go away to Uni which is a shame, because I was hoping to have a play with some local wi-fi networks before I left. I guess it'll have to wait until the Christmas break.

Hoping to catch the dev chat, but if I don't, I was just wondering based on current predictions when the first version is expected to go live? Cheers.
