good song that is, if you don't have it download it. It's called Closing time by Semisonic.
So I spent the day in PHP training. Learning how to handle different social situations etc. All pretty much crap but a process I must go through in order to become an official member of PHP. I'm so going to abuse that power btw.
My recent find of that 1996 computer has put me in the mood for all things retro, so in keeping with that trend I went and found my old Sega Megadrive. Gave me some good laughs to say the least.
...we don't need no water let the motherfucker burn!
anyway, me and my mates were stopped from the police tonight. Apparently there was a fire somewhere and we were seen leaving the scene. So they send a car out to find us and they pull us over just around from my house. I was sitting in the back on my own which would obviously give the impression that I had just been picked up so the cop that came to the driver side of the car was having a good look at me. He was being pretty rude, he told the driver to take his keys out the ignition and put them on his lap without even looking at him. Then he just walked away back to the police car. Another cop who was a lot more polite was at the passenger side of the car asking my friend his details - name, age, phone number etc. Even started having a conversation with him about general crap. The other police guy had returned by this point. Walking with the usual police characteristics, y'know walking with his head high and with a slight swagger, one hand on his radio on his shoulder. So to procedure he started taking our details. When he got to me however he misheard me and put down my date of birth wrong so when he repeated them over his radio I corrected him with my real date of birth. When I done this he got a kind of smile on his face as if to say he caught us out or something. He ventured back over to the car to discus with the now growing number of police. He then came back and asked me my date of birth again. So I told him. He then proceeded to tell me that that's not what I said last time. He didn't seem to like it when I told him that that's what I said he just didn't hear me correctly. By this time I was thinking that we were all going to get took down to the station for sure. But we didn't, we all checked out and everything was fine so we set on our way leaving them to look for whoever started the fire.
The lack of manners on the police behalf really stuck out though. It's not just police who are like this it is most people who have high positions of authority. It's something that really needs to be worked on.
So far 6th year(6 form for all you English people, I think...) has been pretty good. Especially the ammount of free periods(study periods) I get. Now that i'm in 6th year I get to go into the common room. It's a shit hole but it's our shit hole so it's all good. There is a bit of a problem with it though. The head of the maths department is a totall arsehole and is trying to take it off us and turn it into a maths base so he has bard us from it a few times already. Telling us that we are only aloud in there at dinner times and other rediculous statements like that. No one takes him seriously though, he's just wasting his time.
I'm also thinking about becoming a prefect and a member of the PHP* team aswell, I thought if i'm going to stick in at 6th year then I might aswell go all out and try a bit of everything. I'm not usually one you would see getting involved in this sort of thing but since this is my last year at school I will give it a go.
I have two free periods today so I decided to come home, but now that i'm here i'm so bored that i'm thinking about going back in to shcool.
Oh, I look sexy in my new 6th year uniform :P
*PHP stands for Pupils help Pupils. It's a way of letting the senior pupils in the school deal with all the social problems that the younger ones are having. This could be bullying, fitting in and making friends etc.
My old primary school will be changing soon, all of the schools in my scheme are getting knocked down so my old primary school is going to act as a placeholder for all the pupils while the new one is getting built. So before they changed there name and tie to accommodate the new pupils they will be receiving they held an open day for all of us old pupils to go have a wonder about, talk to the old teachers and have a look at some old photographs of us when we were younger.
It was a pretty good day in all honesty. I didn't think I would enjoy it much. However walking about looking in at all the old classrooms it brought a lot of good memorys back to me. Made me realize that i'm getting old, heh. I especially liked talking to my old teachers. As i'm sure you all know since you have all experienced it, primary school ends kind of abruptly. So the last time I spoke to any of the teachers I was just a kid but today we were talking as adults. Not talking about anything specific just general how you doing and what you been up to chat.
When I was there they weren't that far up on the technology ladder but today I seen a big computer lab with 19" TFT screens. I was pretty shocked as that is better than what I currently have at my high school. The blackboards have all been replaced by electronic white boards which my friend programmed a picture of a penis to replace the letter A anytime it was displayed.
All in all it was a good day, was good to be back.
Oh and some of my primary school teachers are hot, couldn't believe my eyes when I seen them.
I read a review of http://www.k12ltsp.org/ linux in the latest edition of micro mart and it got me thinking. Why don't school put more effort into moving to open source software?
I really don't see that much of a problem when there are so many groups dedicated to this cause. Open source software is getting better everyday with a lot more official support. It would give schools a lot more money to spend on more productive things.
Hopefully in the future they will start implementing open source software, i'm just a bid sad that I will be long gone from school when they do.
I've finished my exams so it's back to school on monday for me. I go straight into 6th year to allow space for the primary sevens their two day visit. Two day visits are always fun. Since primary schools are like different gangs, and each different school has a different uniform and around here they are all different colours. My old primary school is blue, the one that we always fought with are green and then you get the snobs who are red etc.
So when it comes to the two day visit you can look out the window from the top of the school over looking the "playground" and you will see patches of different brightly coloured pupils. Funny stuff.
I downloaded whoppix this morning. It's basically just another version of knoppix STD but is supposed to have better hardware support which would be good for me because STD doesn't pick up my wifi card.
heh, on that note. The other day when I was googling for Knoppix STD which brought me to this site. Has some pretty smart pictures.
Well I ended my 5th year today. That's it officially over. I have my first exam tomorow, an english exam which shouldn't be too hard. I've lost my exam time table though, so after tomorow i'm going to need to go around and ask everyone when the exams are which is going to be annoying as hell.
Wish me luck.
Oh and I just noticed that there are no borders around the text input boxes anymore. Is that just me?
I've decided to get a new wireless card for my ubuntu/kubuntu laptop. The one I currently have is a WG511T which is based on the Atheros super G enhanced chipset and I just can't find any WEP cracking programs that will work with it. So i'm going to take this opportunity to buy myself a new card. I'm stuck on which one to get though. Should I get one that uses the prism2 based chipset or orinoc. There is a lot of support for the prism based ones but i've been told orinoc are really good. I'll keep you all updated.
