I won't begin to make excuses about how expensive gas is. The third world is industrializing and demand is going up. I understand this.
I also spent a couple of years gassing up Opel Corsas in Fuengirola, Spain at the BP. So I know that Europe has been raped on gas prices for decades.
None the less I'm taking matters into my own hands, and my Europeeps should be happy I've not dogged it and gone Chinese.
I bought a 2008 Piaggio BV250 Scooter. Anyone who is me will tell you that Piaggio is the only way to go. I love this thing. It gets 70 mpg and still costs less than $10 till fill up. I can commute a couple of weeks on it... if that's all I did... but I'm always out and about cruising on this thing. I've put nearly 200 miles on it in 2 weeks. It's a lot of fun.
I ended up buying gear as well. I purchased a blue Corazzo 5.0 jacket, complete with armored elbows, shoulders and back. I also purchased the Corazzo Carbone gloves. I was given a helmet with my purchase. It's a Fulmer P1, matte black.
Additionally I've started a Facebook group called Scooter Commuter. Search for it on Facebook if you're interested.

I agree with fish, I google the type of scooter you have but got bored when I couln't find it.
Although I have been considering getting a scooter for the reasons you pointed out, and funnily enough there was a guy in my work tonight talking about them and saying how cheap they are compared to cars.

...and by fish I meant crisp.
Just found a "bug" in blogotmy I think. Once I completed my first post and was took back to the comments page I clicked add comment to create a new one and it posted the same one again then gave me a db error.
