I've taken a liking to Django. It's a web framework that does a good job at making web coding fun. I'm headed to DjangoCon next month at the GooglePlex. Maybe I'll see you there?! I'll be wearing jeans and Apple T-Shirts, most likely.
I'm still trying to get in shape. I'm down 20 lbs. for the summer. It feels good to get back into some of my favorite clothes. Still a long way to go though.
I'm still loving the scooter. I'm averaging between 60-70 miles per gallon... depending mostly on whether I hit the enormous head wind on SR-92 on my way home. It's not enough to blow me off the road, but does slow the scooter down a bit.
I need to unload some thoughts so I'm going to shotgun lots of crapola. It's been a while, bear with, or leave now before I infuriate you. I'll try and be good with the categories so you can filter at a glance.
I won't begin to make excuses about how expensive gas is. The third world is industrializing and demand is going up. I understand this.
I also spent a couple of years gassing up Opel Corsas in Fuengirola, Spain at the BP. So I know that Europe has been raped on gas prices for decades.
None the less I'm taking matters into my own hands, and my Europeeps should be happy I've not dogged it and gone Chinese.
I bought a 2008 Piaggio BV250 Scooter. Anyone who is me will tell you that Piaggio is the only way to go. I love this thing. It gets 70 mpg and still costs less than $10 till fill up. I can commute a couple of weeks on it... if that's all I did... but I'm always out and about cruising on this thing. I've put nearly 200 miles on it in 2 weeks. It's a lot of fun.
I ended up buying gear as well. I purchased a blue Corazzo 5.0 jacket, complete with armored elbows, shoulders and back. I also purchased the Corazzo Carbone gloves. I was given a helmet with my purchase. It's a Fulmer P1, matte black.
Additionally I've started a Facebook group called Scooter Commuter. Search for it on Facebook if you're interested.
I'm definitely a Twitter fan. I could do better about updates though. In an attempt to do just that, as well as make myself publicly accountable, I'm twittering my health regimen in a series of posts I'll preface with FitTwit. So what am I personally working on? Here's my current status and plan of attack.
Motivation(s): Getting healthy for me and for family. Qualify for better insurance. Whoop a co-worker at the weight loss challenge we're having.
Plan of attack:
Exercise: Not only the trips to the gym, and the morning jog on my treadmill. I'll update about other attempts to make myself be more active.
Diet: Nothing non-sensical. Mostly portion control and curbing the burger habit. Mixed in with this will be an attempt at curbing my lunch spending habits. It's just out of control to try and eat out everyday.
Study: I'm going to take a few minutes everyday to read about weightloss. My bro-in-law is a guru in this area, so conversations with VJ will also count towards study time. Maybe I'll try and get VJ to Twitter as well. He's a big Hood-to-Coast runner and could provide stellar running tips.
Spirit: Here's where the weirdness comes out... I'm going to do more meditation, breathing, Yoga type exercising as well. Years ago I was a gymnast and had fantastic flexibility. I'd like to become much more flexible than I am today.
That's about it. I like the idea of public accountability. Twitter is a great in the moment motivator. I'll want to Tweet about progress, and that will encourage me to step away from the machine a bit to earn the opportunity.
Feel free to do your own FitTwit-tering. I'm planning on setting up a global watch for FitTwit to find others to help motivate me. Please d msg me if you'd like to join a motivation club centered around FitTwit.
